More than 150 invited guests gathered on Brickell Avenue last week to salute 52 community leaders who were featured in the 2023 Book of Leaders, which compiles a full year of the Achiever profiles that are the hallmark of Miami Today.
Business, civic and government leaders – many of whom were honored as Achievers in the past – gathered in the 24th floor events center of Northern Trust Bank at 600 Brickell Ave. to mingle with this year’s honorees, whose portraits were consecutively displayed overhead throughout the night.
Miami Today has recognized more than 2,100 Achievers since 1983.
In a brief program, guests were greeted by Alexander Adams, president of Northern Trust for the South Florida Region, who noted that Northern Trust and Miami Today have collaborated in community endeavors since Miami Today’s founding. Collaborations included creation of the Brickell Avenue Literary Society and development of the Prologue Society.
Throughout the evening, musicians from the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired performed a broad range of music as hors d’oeuvres were passed to guests honoring the Achievers who were featured in the 27th edition of the Book of Leaders unveiled that night. The musicians received hearty applause during presentations.
Miami Today Publisher Michael Lewis noted to the celebrating group that the news organization carefully curates those chosen as Achievers for their significant impact on and service to the community.
“We are proud to honor these stellar individuals,” said Mr. Lewis, who noted that in Achiever profiles and other articles Miami Today chronicles news vital to readers that cannot be found elsewhere, closing with the reminder that “democracy dies in darkness.”
